A vegan chocolate we enjoy regularly is the Galaxy Caramelised Hazelnut Vegan Chocolate. If you order from Amazon it comes in a pack of 10, which may last a few days or weeks, depending on how much of this chocolate you like to enjoy every day!
They also offer Caramel and Sea Salt as well as Orange as flavours. These flavours are quite special and not everybody likes the combination of sweet and salty. Our favourite is the caramelised hazelnut flavour, which just tastes fantastic!
In our area you can order it even with Same Day delivery via Amazon, but if you enjoy vegan chocolate regularly, it probably makes sense to order these via the subscribe and save option, as this gives you 15% discount.
They are still quite expensive and cost roughtly as much as the iChoc certified organic chocolate, which we have reviewed and recommended as well. However, it is worth pointing out that, even though the Galaxy chocolate is not organic, a look at the ingredients list shows why the Galaxy chocolate is quite expensive.
This chocolate is made out of a significant portion of hazelnut and hazelnut paste. This is not cheap! Looking at the rest of the ingredients there do not seem to be any thickeners or anything you would normally find in a cheap chocolate. This is a surprise, as it is not organic. Cocoa butter, cocoa solids, cocoa mass, sugar and not a lot else! I don't see any weird bulking ingredients.
Taste wise, whis is the important part, Galaxy has really convinced us! It tastes delicious, melts like chocolate should, and there are not too many nuts in there. It just feels a bit thinner in consistency than other chocolate and I guess that's because you don't have the milk fats or thickeners in there. It's all very well having vegan dark chocolate but the whole thing with milk chocolate is you need to approximate the milk somehow.
I have a friend who is not vegan or vegetarian but was interested to know whether this is a decent tasting chocolate bar when she visited me. To be honest, normally non-vegan friends always find something they don´t like when they try vegan food, and therefore my expectations were not very high when I gave it to her to try. However, she loved it! She told me how sweet and creamy it was, and she said she would also recommend it further.
I was a little confused by the reference to traces of milk on the packaging, as it’s selling point is vegan and it´s vegan certified, but of course it does not contain any milk. It is made in a factory where there is milk or where other products are made that contain milk. So the labelling is to cover allergy issues.
All in all the taste is great, and I don’t think the price is unreasonable, especially if you buy the 10-pack with 15% subscribe and save discount. It’s on a par with other high quality chocolate brands, and on top it´s vegan. A great product you should try!
